Press release: “On its own initiative, Gaïatrend approached the INERIS laboratory (National Institute for Industrial Environment and risks) to conduct evaluations on oral and dermal toxicity of flavored liquids for electronic cigarettes”.

Recently, the Experimental Toxicology Unit (Unité de Toxicologie Expérimentale – Direction des Risques Chroniques) of the INERIS was mandated by Gaïatrend for carrying out two large scale studies on the harmfulness of its products upon ingestion or dermal contact. Alfaliquid brand’s best seller, “FR-M”, was selected in its highest strength (19.6 mg/ml nicotine) for the assays.

The studies concluded that “Based on the experimental conditions and the regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, the e-liquid FR-M containing 19.6 mg/ml of nicotine (Alfaliquid – 19 , 6 mg/mL) is not rated for oral or dermal route.”

The results published by the INERIS empower Gaïatrend to remove the pictograms “Nocive” and “Toxic” from their labelling of this product, as well as for the lower strengths 16 mg/ml, 11 mg/ml and 6 mg/ml.

As of May 2016, the FR-M in all strengths will receive a new sticker lacking the CLP pictograms.
