As its name suggests it, Smokjoy’s Demon Hunter RDTA is a reconstructible top coil atomizer. With a diameter of 25 mm and a length of 47 mm, its capacity is rather limited, only 2.8 ml. We tested the Gold version whose stainless steel parts are plated in gold 18 K.

Velocity and airflow under the coils

With a large drip top in POM (13 mm, internal diameter), its mounting deck is a classical Velocity with two posts on each electrode. The air inlets that arrive just under the resistance are an asset for a better rendering of flavors. Sold without a reducer of chamber, the Demon Hunter RDTA can only be used in dual coil configuration, what may refrain some users. Visually, it is very close from Ijoy’s Combo RDTA.

The good surprise comes from the finish, of a far better quality compared to the Air 50S Micro kit, a low-end beginner’s kit of the same brand. Screws are of good quality and the dual airflow ring moves softly. The only fault I see, here is the bell that is fastened by only one O-ring and releases too easily from its base. A second one would have been welcome.

The filling system is smartly thought with a tube at the center of the mounting deck. The hole is large enough to accept any type of e-liquid pipette. Filling is very easy, you just have to remove the drip top to get access to this tube. When replacing the drip top, a cap naturally comes to close the hole. Efficient!

Technical review

The main features of Smokejoy’s Demon Hunter RDTA:

  • Diameter: 25 mm
  • Height: 47 mm
  • Weight:   50.3 g
  • Capacity: 2.8 ml
  • Materials: Gold plated (18K) stainless steel, Pyrex (tank) and POM (drip top),
  • Connectivity 510 Gold plated 18K, insulated with PEEK
  • Airflow: double and adjustable
  • Recommended power range: 30 – 150 W

The package includes:

  • 1x Demon Hunter RDTA
  • 1x spare Pyrex tank
  • Spare O-rings and screws
  • Illustrated User manual

Wicking the coils is also very easy. Do prefer resistance coils with a diameter of at least 2.5 mm to fill the liquid inlets and avoid leakage. Then, cut the cotton to leave about 1 cm on each side of the coil and insert the tips in each holes.

Clouds and flavors, but huge consumption

Left, the Demon Hunter RDTA by Smokjoy; Right the Combo RDTA by Ijoy

For flavors, even if it is not really made for that, the Demon Hunter RDTA demonstrates a pretty good potential. Let’s say that with such a huge consumption, it would be a shame. When vaping, it is logically very aerial. The drip top is of a classical format and pleasant in mouth. Tested with the two twisted kanthal resistance coils, the setup peaks at 0.15 Ω. With this resistance, the Demon Hunter RDTA asks for power to breathe. A minimum of 50 W, even rather 60 W allows vaping with the airflow reduced to one half. Cloud lovers will be happy, it is massive.

In summary

The “+”:

  • Easy to mount
  • Big volume of vapor
  • Good rendering of flavors
  • Upstanding finish
  • Smart top filling

The “-“:

  • Dual coil mount mandatory
  • Tank capacity lower than competitors
  • Huge consumption
  • Only available in Chinese stores

Conclusions

Rating of 4/5. Smokjoy’s Demon Hunter is a good quality RDTA that is largely inspired by Ijoy. A bit more expensive, less well equipped and with a lower capacity than Ijoy models, its asset is a smart and easy top filling system. Even if the product is far from being bad, Ijoy offers better products and is more represented in Europe, which is not the case for Smokjoy.
