The return of starter kits
As the market shifts increasingly towards disposable devices, it is refreshing to see some manufacturers still offering simple kits built around a mod and a clearomizer. The Coolfire Z Air is compact and holds its own against the ever-shrinking range of pod devices.

A small but capable kit
On the front of the mod, two buttons handle all the controls. The larger one fires the device, while the smaller one below cycles through three power levels (low, medium, and high) — more on that shortly. Two LEDs indicate the selected power level and confirm the device is operating correctly. One notable change from Innokin: the Coolfire Z Air powers on with five consecutive button presses, departing from the three-press activation the brand had used for years. Build quality and finish are excellent throughout. The integrated battery is rated at 2,000 mAh — not the largest on the market, but more than adequate given the modest power draw of the included coils.
The clearomizer threads onto the top of the mod via a spring-loaded connector that ensures a reliable electrical contact. While the mod can accept clearomizers up to 19 mm in diameter, it is clearly designed to be used with the included one.
The Z Air features an airflow control at the base of the clearomizer. It consists of two small slots and a slightly larger opening, allowing users to move from a very tight, warm draw to a more open, restricted direct-lung vape. This versatility is a welcome touch, particularly for beginners keen to explore different vaping styles.
Filling is straightforward: unscrew the top cap a quarter-turn to expose two fill ports, both large enough to accommodate most e-liquid bottle tips. Tank capacity is 3 ml. The drip tip is standard 510 format and can be swapped out if needed.
Two well-established coils are included in the kit. The 0.8-ohm Z Coil is rated for 15–18W, while the 1.6-ohm Z Coil, suited to tight mouth-to-lung vaping, runs at 9–12W. In use, the kit delivers exactly what it promises. Operation is refreshingly simple: one button to vape, three closely spaced power levels. With the 1.6-ohm coil, the three settings deliver 9W, 11W, and 12W respectively. With the 0.8-ohm coil, the range runs from 15W through 17W to 18W.
Flavour reproduction is excellent, particularly with dessert and classic e-liquids. The vapour is warm and consistent with what these flavour profiles call for.
