Why trust us ?

Ghyslain Armand, founder of the Vaping Post.

In our view, vaping is a subject that demands technical expertise but also human experience. That’s what allows us to judge the quality of different products properly. At the Vaping Post, we’ve been vaping for many years (some of us have even been vaping since 2011). We’ve tried some brilliant and some terrible products over the years. Every month, manufacturers send us all their new designs to get our opinion of their kit and e-liquids. That’s given us solid know-how when it comes to assessing products that we use ourselves. In our offices we keep electronic testing tools like oscilloscopes (to measure signals and how steadily power is delivered), as well as archives of all our previous tests. That means we know the commercial background of every new product and can thoroughly review it from a technical point of view. Our testing also relies heavily on our human judgement, because first and foremost, vaping is an experience. So we consult each other regularly about the marks we give each product.

For us it’s all about informing consumers, not selling vaping kit. 13 years ago, the founder of the Vaping Post, Ghyslain Armand, started this adventure by writing the first lines of this website. As someone finding it difficult to break free of smoking and pinning his hopes on vaping, his story is probably very similar to yours. His enthusiasm and thirst for information pushed him to write to help other smokers. Today, a dozen of us have joined him, and we are all still fired with the same energy to help you quit smoking for your health, your family and friends, and also for the planet. We select the best vaping products with professionalism, openness and honesty.

How do you rank products?

We test new equipment all year round, and have been doing for almost 10 years. Our team is made up of former smokers who have specialized in vaping because they love it, and who share their vaping experience every day in their detailed posts. These reviews all follow the same pattern and meet specific evaluation criteria. That allows everyone to judge the quality of new products on the market. We assign our marks as a whole team, and we’re completely independent of manufacturers.

The best decision is to quit tobacco

You’ve decided to quit smoking – congratulations! At the Vaping Post, we specialize in testing and in online vaping news. We keep you up-to-date
about the best of vaping by regularly revising our reviews of the best e-cigarettes in each category. We only write about the latest equipment made by reputable
brands and sold at affordable prices, so you can step into in the world of personal vaping devices with complete confidence.

The 5 key factors to find the right e-cigarette

Smoking causes a complex addiction, which cannot be explained by just a few factors. For years, traditional smoking cessation methods (patches, gum, etc.) have focused on satisfying the smoker’s need for nicotine alone. However, we now know that nicotine is not the only source of addiction. Smokers associate the “anchor” behaviour with consuming nicotine – which acts as a chemical marker – and this is reinforced every time they smoke a cigarette. So as well as your brain’s physical need for nicotine whenever you feel a craving, there’s a psychological aspect to understanding smoking. Any smoker will tell you that they’re “addicted to having something to do with their hands” too. And that’s where e-cigarettes excel: they satisfy the physical craving for nicotine and fill a psychological void. Vapers use their hands as they did when smoking, with something to hold, a flavour in their mouth and vapour to blow out, so the replacement e-cigarette feels more satisfying. Here are some vaping basics to help you understand it all.

1- The right e-cig for every person

Illustration of a vaperEvery vaper has different tastes, feelings and expectations, so there is no such thing as one best overall e-cigarette. The best e-cigarette is the one that will help you quit tobacco cigarettes, so it has to be very personal. That’s what makes vaping so great: you can do it in a way that suits you. Most of the products we show you here are “open” systems. That means they are interchangeable with other components (this tank can work with that battery, etc.). That means lots of options for personalizing your vaping device to suit your needs. To give yourself the best chance of quitting with an e-cigarette, we’ll give you the basics you need to know.

2- The right power level

Illustration of a batteryOur first piece of advice is to avoid very powerful models. They’ll be much bulkier. Our rankings for the best beginner kits, for example, only include e-cigarettes that are easy to transport and to fit into your pocket. If you want something even smaller, we recommend pod mods. Their particularly small size makes them even easier to use. However, they tend to do worse on battery life, so that’s something to think about when you buy. On the other hand, if you choose a kit that uses a variable power box mod and a clearomizer, choose a box with a maximum power of between 30 and 40 W. That will be more than enough to start with.

3- The right clearomizer for the smoker

Illustration of a clearomizerThe clearomizer is the top part of the e- cigarette you put into your mouth. It is made up of a tank, a coil and a mouthpiece (drip tip). We’d recommend choosing a clearomizer with a tight draw and coils of more than 1 ohm. A high resistance in ohms will let you inhale indirectly. Indirect inhalation is a two-step vaping method. First you pull the vapour into your mouth and then into your lungs, just like smoking a tobacco cigarette. All of the models we’ve selected above work with indirect inhalation. A good clearomizer is essential, so make sure you get one!

4- Battery life matters

Illustration of an other batteryThe battery needs to hold its charge long enough. Battery life is calculated in milliamperes/hour (mAh). It’s easy to work out because the higher the mAh, the longer the battery will last. To sum up, 1500 mAh or more will give any new vaper enough power for a day without worrying about the battery. Another important point: the higher the ohm value of the coil in the clearomizer, the less battery power it will use. The e-cigarette must have pass-through functionality, which lets you vape while it recharges it via a micro USB cable. If yours doesn’t have that option, consider buying a second battery. Then you avoid being left waiting, which might give you time to reach for a smoke in the meantime.

5- Simplicity is key

Stopping smoking can be stressful, so anything that makes your life easier is a good thing. With that in mind, opt for a clearomizer with a top-fill e-liquid tank. It’s a lot easier and faster. Along the same lines, the less geeky among you will prefer batteries with non-variable power. Fill the tank, wait a few minutes for the coil to soak through, then press the button and vape. The simpler, the better, at least when you start vaping. If you want the simplest possible solution, choose a pod mod instead. Pod mods are small e-cigarettes that are easy to use, although their battery often lasts less than in a box mod.

2 golden rules for choosing the right e-liquid

We all know that e-liquid is the key ingredient in vaping. This clever blend of propylene glycol, vegetable glycerine, nicotine
and flavourings needs careful thought to help you swap smoking for vaping. Quitting cigarettes is hard. Replacing them with flavoured vapour may seem odd
sometimes, but once you’ve found the right e-liquid you’ll soon forget cigarettes. Here are our tips for choosing the right e-liquid in future:

1- A nicotine level that’s right for your needs

Illustration of the nicotine levelThis is another a key factor in successfully quitting smoking. Start with a high nicotine level (e.g. 12 or 18 mg/ml) for the first few days or weeks, especially if you choose a pod as they’re less powerful. The best thing is to test different products and make up your own mind. Finally, don’t be afraid of nicotine. What makes smoking dangerous is inhaling the smoke from burning tobacco, not the nicotine. As a smoker, nicotine for you is a bit like caffeine. You can always reduce the nicotine level gradually later if you want to.

2- Flavour - what a pleasure!

Illustration of an e-juiceThe e-liquid you choose can have a big impact on how successfully you transition to vaping. Part of stopping smoking is the pleasure of discovering flavours you like. We suggest you choose several so you don’t get bored. E-liquid manufacturers sell a huge range of flavours: tobacco (also called classic), fruity, gourmet, cocktail and mint flavours. Visiting a well- stocked store is the best way to test a lot of different e-liquids and choose the ones you like. Part of vaping is the pleasure of tasting different flavours. Are e-cigarettes hazardous to your health?

Are you a smoker, wondering if e-cigarettes might harm your health? It’s a valid question, because most of the products we
consume involve some risk. Read on – science has made huge progress on the subject. Compared to smoking tobacco, there’s a large body of evidence in
support of vaping being far less dangerous.

The danger is combustion

E-cigarettes are designed to reduce risk for smokers, i.e. they will help you to reduce the many dangers associated with smoking. This is because they contain no tobacco and there is no combustion.

It’s when tobacco burns that it releases thousands of hazardous chemical compounds, including over sixty known carcinogens. This lethal cocktail makes smoking the deadliest habit in human history. As soon as you stop burning tobacco, you remove most of the dangers, including the well-known dangers of carbon monoxide, tar and even the fine particles found in the smoke.

95% less harmful than smoked tobacco

An extensive study of the literature by the British Department of Health in 2015 drew this important conclusion.

Since the United Kingdom is now the country where smokers are encouraged to vape more than anywhere else, people vape even in hospitals and smoking cessation support units. The result? They have one of the lowest smoking rates across Europe.

In France, politics are still a problem, but there are whispers that vaping’s much less harmful than smoked tobacco. Official French supporters include the National Academy of Medicine, the Economic, Social and Environmental Council and the National Cancer Institute, as well as a large number of doctors, tobacco experts and addiction specialists.

Nicotine is not carcinogenic

We often hear smokers spreading a common misconception about e-cigarettes.

“If it contains nicotine, vaping must cause cancer too.” They’re wrong.

Nicotine is an alkaloid. At the doses ingested by a smoker or a vaper, it poses no major risk to the body. Nicotine causes an addiction to smoking to an extent, but we could just as well compare it to caffeine. It is found in medications to stop smoking of course, but it’s in aubergines too.

“People smoke for the nicotine but die from the tar,” wrote psychiatrist Michael Russel in 1974, laying the foundations for reducing risks to smokers. We’d recommend reading our article Everything you needed to know about nicotine.

World has standards for vaping

One criticism we often hear in alarmist debate is,

“We don’t know what’s in it.” But that is completely untrue.

Firstly, we know exactly what ingredients there are in an e-liquid, and secondly we can measure the emissions (vapour) from e-cigarettes with great precision.

This is thanks to science, which has made huge progress with respect to vaping over the past ten years (yes, it’s been around that long), and because manufacturing standards have been set.

These standards are imposed by the European Union and, for United States, by the Food and Drugs Administration.

Whichever method you choose, the key is to quit smoking

You just know it – as soon as you tell anyone you want to stop smoking, they’ll all want to give you advice. Obviously, here at the Vaping Post we all think vaping is brilliant because it’s helped every one of us to stop smoking. But there are lots of other ways too. Whether you choose a behavioural method, alternative or traditional medicine, medication or just go cold turkey, the goal is the same. It’s just the method that differs, and it’s up to you to find what works for you. If you don’t manage the first time, don’t despair. Smoking is considered one of the most difficult addictions to break. To stop smoking, you need courage and perseverance. Please comment on our articles if you have any questions. E-cigarettes and lobbies

So, you’re about to start vaping. That means you’ll soon be helping to shake up established world order! As you vape, take some time to think about tobacco tax revenues, the dividends tobacco companies pay their shareholders, or the net margins of pharmaceutical companies that specialize in smoking cessation aids. Welcome to vaping!
